Pastoral Council Nominations Now Open
Help us identify faithful parishioners who may be called to offer prayerful counsel for the good of St. Mary’s.
St. Mary’s is now accepting nominations for the Parish Pastoral Council. Parishioners are invited to nominate members of the parish who are faithful, prayerful, prudent, and able to help the parish consider its mission, pastoral needs, plans, and long-range goals.
What is the Pastoral Council?
The Pastoral Council is a consultative body that assists the Pastor by offering prayerful counsel on matters of greater pastoral importance. The Council helps provide a way for the parish community to express its collective wisdom concerning pastoral plans, activities, needs, and opportunities. Members of the Pastoral Council are asked to consider the good of the whole parish community: its faith, joys, hopes, needs, concerns, gifts, and mission. The Council’s work is not focused on one single ministry or area of parish life, but on helping the Pastor reflect on the broader pastoral life and direction of St. Mary’s. You can also learn more about the current Pastoral Council on the parish website here: Current Pastoral CouncilWho may be nominated?
Nominees should be registered parishioners of St. Mary’s Catholic Church who are at least 18 years old. They must be Catholic, fully initiated through Baptism, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion, of good reputation and outstanding in faith and virtue, and EIM compliant.A good nominee may be someone who:
- loves St. Mary’s and desires the good of the parish;
- is faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church;
- listens well and speaks with charity and prudence;
- is able to consider the needs of the whole parish community;
- can offer thoughtful counsel to the Pastor and Council.
How are members selected?
After the nomination period closes, the nominations will be reviewed. In accordance with the Pastoral Council bylaws, the current Pastoral Council, with the consent of the Pastor, will elect members to fill open elected positions. Those elected will then be invited by the Pastor to serve a three-year term. Submitting a nomination does not automatically place someone on the Pastoral Council. Rather, nominations help the Council and Pastor discern parishioners who may be well suited to serve in this consultative role.Submit a Nomination
