Sacred music forms the heart.
At St. Mary’s, we want every student to have opportunities to know, love, and serve Jesus Christ. The Catechetical Choir gives children a powerful way to do just that: by learning to pray, sing, listen, and serve through the beauty of sacred music.
This year, our 4th and 5th graders from St. Mary’s Catholic School participated in the program, joining children across the Diocese of Austin in receiving excellent choral formation rooted in the Catholic tradition.
Why it matters
Children are not only learning music. They are learning worship.
Through this program, students are invited to use their voices in service of God and His Church, while discovering the beauty of the Catholic choral tradition.
About The Catechetical Choir
Handing down the Catholic choral tradition
The Catechetical Choir is a grant-funded project in the Diocese of Austin. It is a multilingual children’s choir program focused on passing down the Catholic choral tradition and raising up the next generation of music ministers.
Rooted in Tradition
Students encounter historic Catholic hymns and music that has helped the Church pray for generations.
Formed for Worship
Children grow in musical literacy, choral excellence, reverence, and a heart for service.
Faith Through Music
The program includes catechetical formation, helping students learn not only what they sing, but why it matters.

The Catechetical Choir reflects something we believe deeply at St. Mary’s: children are capable of real prayer, real beauty, and real participation in the life of the Church.
When our students learn sacred music, they are learning more than notes and words. They are being invited into the Church’s living tradition of prayer. They are learning to offer their gifts to the Lord. They are discovering that they have a place in the story God is telling through His Church.
